Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, USA (HSS) reached out US Congressmen and local public officials during the month of August to celebrate Raksha Bandhan and spread the message of communal harmony and that of social service. Traditionally, in India Raksha Bandhan is an occasion to celebrate special relation of brother and sister. For ages, sister ties a thread called Rakhi to brother’s wrist and reminds him of his duties to protect her. HSS celebrates Raksha Bandhan as Universal Oneness Day where our individual responsibilities towards the society are remembered.
HSS celebrates this event within its membership in its local 150+ chapters across the United States and also reaches out general public as well as public officials. This year, HSS volunteers greeted Congressman Frank Wolf, 10th district VA, Congressman David G Reichert's Office, 8th district WA, Congressman Jim Moran, 8th district, VA, Congressman Pete Olson, 22nd District of TX, office of Congresswoman Renee Ellmers. second district of North Carolina, State Rep. Tan Parker, District 63 of Texas, and Congresswoman Judy Biggert, of 13th Congressional district in Illinois. Additionally, Mayor of Aurora,IL Thomas Weisner as well as Police and Fire departments of Aurora,, IL, Naperville, IL, Jacksonville, FL, Irwine, CA were also visited by HSS volunteers and children. Everyone appreciated this festival , the unique message it brings along with and as well as social service HSS offers in their constituencies as well as nationwide.
