Recently, the swayamsevaks & sevikas of Erie shakha hosted Sakhi(सखि), a workshop designed for women, as a precursor to the Sakhi sammelan programme scheduled for August, as part of Vandaniya Mausiji’s birth centenary.
The programme was held at Montessori Children’s house of Erie on Saturday, June 4th, 2005. The faculty was Ms. Sayee Patil, who is currently pursuing Ph.D in Molecular Genetics at NY Medical College, who guided us in planning the sakhi sammelan for August. She was accompanied by Dr.Sarika, who delivered a lecture on women’s health.
It was a 5 hour programme, starting at 10.30 am. After the shakha prarambh, people gathered on the open ground for some warm up exercises & standing and sitting asanas, led by Sayee Patil. Following it was the most exciting part – games! We played the “Introduction game”, as there were lot of new faces for the shakha this time. Other games like reverse kho, Ram ravan & an Informative game (our knowledge of history was put to test!) added to the fun. After chanting the bhojan mantra, we all had the bhojan which was arranged by the sevikas of the shakha.
After the lunch break, as part of Boudhik session, Dr.Sarika delivered a lecture on “Women’s Health issues”, which was very informative. Also, sevaks & sevikas were asked to put forth their ideas for sakhi sammelan programme, which is now to be finalised & chalked out in detail. Finally, the programme ended with the most enjoyable part, the “skit”, where people were divided into four groups and each group was given a topic to prepare & enact a short skit. There were some really good performances here!
It was a pleasure to have Ms. Sayee Patil and Dr.Sarika here & we would look forward to their visit in future.
