The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA (HSS) is deeply troubled by the ongoing atrocities and severe human rights violations against Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh. What began as student and civil protests against the previous Bangladeshi government has tragically escalated into targeted violence against Hindus, including horrific crimes against women, children, and men. This has led to widespread looting of Hindu properties, destruction of businesses, and vandalism of temples including ISKCON and Kali temples, and other religious structures.
This situation represents a disturbing display of organized violence against a vulnerable minority group, which has not been adequately addressed by local law enforcement. We call on the interim government of Bangladesh, led by Professor Mohammad Yunus and supported by military partners, to urgently address this humanitarian crisis. It is crucial that they hold the perpetrators accountable, restore civic order, and provide support to the affected Hindu and minority communities to aid their recovery.
In the United States, we are reminded of Martin Luther King Jr.’s words, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” We urge interfaith, community organizations, and Hindu Americans to stand in solidarity with the victims of these egregious acts in Bangladesh.
Additionally, we call upon our elected officials, including Senators, U.S. Representatives, President Biden, and the State Department, to use diplomatic channels to pressure the interim Bangladeshi regime and all political parties to adhere to internationally recognized human rights standards and protect minority communities.
The current political unrest in Bangladesh is detrimental to the nation’s wellbeing. We hope for a swift resolution that fosters a democratic and pluralistic society, ensuring justice and equality for all its citizens.
