HSS USA Expresses Deep Concern Over Alleged Mass-Shooting Plot Potentially Targeting a Hindu Temple in Aurora, Illinois

Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA (HSS USA) expresses deep concern over reports of an alleged mass-shooting plot that may have targeted a Hindu temple in Aurora, Illinois. The allegations are profoundly disturbing for Hindu Americans and for everyone who cherishes religious freedom and the right to gather and worship without fear.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Palatine and Mount Prospect Police Departments, the FBI, the Aurora Police Department, and all law enforcement personnel involved in investigating the threat and protecting the community. We also commend the individuals who brought their concerns to authorities. Their vigilance underscores the vital role that timely reporting and cooperation play in public safety.

HSS USA urges Hindu communities across the United States to remain calm, united, and vigilant. We encourage temples, community organizations, and families to maintain communication with local law enforcement, review security arrangements, and promptly report threats or suspicious activity. Please rely on verified information and avoid circulating rumors. Our response must reflect both preparedness and our enduring commitment to peace.

We call upon elected officials and political leaders across party lines to acknowledge and address growing concerns about hatred directed at Indian Americans and, in particular, American Hindus—a small religious minority within our nation. We urge them to explicitly denounce Hinduphobia, anti-Indian racism, and threats against Hindu places of worship, and to appeal to their constituents, supporters, and stakeholders to do the same.

Guided by the Hindu ideal of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world is one family—HSS USA stands in solidarity with every community threatened by hatred and violence. We invite civic, interfaith, and community leaders to stand with the American Hindu community while affirming a fundamental American promise: every person deserves to live, worship, and participate in community life in safety and dignity.
